About Northwell Counselling
Virtual Psychotherapy for Rural, Remote & Northern Ontario
A Division of Maxey Psychotherapy Professional Corporation
Rooted in Community. Reaching Across Distance.
At Northwell Counselling, we provide exclusively virtual therapy for individuals, couples, and families living in rural, remote, and Northern Ontario. We exist to bridge the gap between communities and care—because where you live should never determine whether you can access meaningful mental health support.
We understand the realities of northern and rural life: small communities where privacy matters, long distances to services, and the feeling that mental health care isn’t built with your context in mind. That’s why Northwell Counselling was created—to offer accessible, ethical, and culturally informed support where it’s most needed.
A Virtual Clinic Designed for Northern Realities
Northwell Counselling is more than a virtual branch of care. It’s a dedicated response to the persistent mental health care gaps in Northern and underserved communities. Our clinicians work entirely online and are trained to build strong, therapeutic relationships through secure video platforms. Our goal is to ensure that virtual care still feels personal, professional, and responsive to your lived experience.
We are a proud division of Maxey Psychotherapy Professional Corporation and the sister clinic of Norfolk County Counselling & Psychotherapy in Southern Ontario. While our roots are in clinical excellence, our reach is northern—and growing.

Our Approach
We are:
- Trauma-informed and identity-affirming
- Committed to culturally respectful care
- Trained to work with clients from diverse communities, including Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent populations
- Deeply aware of the barriers to care in rural and Northern Ontario
The benefits of choosing us for your therapy:
Confidentiality, Compassion and Client-Centred Care
Licensed Clinical Professionals
Our clinical team are registered mental health clinicians or clinical interns who are closely supervised by a registered mental health provider. This means that we are insured, and we must follow all of the regulations for health care in Ontario as well as the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
Collaborative
We work with you to provide an empowering space where you can be yourself without judgement. We strive to ensure that you feel comfortable and supported with us. By providing either in-person, online, or hybrid therapy options we put your convenience first.
Confidential
We understand that therapy is a vulnerable process. Your privacy is of utmost importance to us. Know that every measure is taken to protect your privacy and your information will remain confidential. We follow the rules set out by the Personal Health Information Protection Act of Ontario and current Electronic Professional Practice Guidelines from the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
What Makes Us Different
- We don’t offer in-person sessions—our entire model is virtual-first and built that way intentionally.
- Our therapists bring real understanding of life in small or remote communities, including the challenges of accessing care confidentially.
- We offer reduced-fee services through our clinical intern program to ensure affordability isn’t a barrier.
- We are actively involved in training and retaining mental health professionals in underserved regions of Ontario.
You shouldn’t have to choose between distance and support.
With Northwell, you can stay rooted in your community and still access exceptional care.
